Australian Taxation Office Program 1.11

Contribution

The Low Income Superannuation Tax Offset (LISTO) is aimed to address some of the inequity in the superannuation system, where low income earners with a marginal rate of tax less than 15 per cent, pay a higher rate of tax on superannuation contributions than if they had received the money as salary and wages. The LISTO replaces the low income superannuation contribution (LISC) policy from 1 July 2017. LISC will continue to be payable for concessional contributions made up to and including the 2016?17 year, however, determinations will cease at 1 July 2019. The Treasury has policy responsibility for the program, while the ATO administers the program and provides information and support to individuals and superannuation funds through advice and education services.
