Continue the Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) implementation of its 10-year plan to modernise and replace legacy ICT systems.
The Government will provide $156.7 million over 4 years from 2023-24 ($197.0 million over 7 years from 2023-24 and $9.4 million per year ongoing from 2030-31) to continue the Australian Bureau of Statistics' (ABS) implementation of its 10-year plan to modernise and replace legacy ICT systems. This measure will support the transition of key data assets to a secure cloud environment, including the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and 4 key business surveys. As part of this measure, the ABS will also move to a full monthly CPI, including obtaining more frequent data observations of prices in the economy. Partial funding for this measure will be held in the Contingency Reserve pending the further development of ICT system requirements, as part of the Government's commitment to ensuring that critical future investment is properly scoped and provides maximum value for the taxpayer.
